To get rid of termites from your home, consider calling an exterminator. Although you might believe that there are ants crawling on your walls and ceilings, it’s probably just an illusion. After all, termites are destructive pests. Termites can be found in 49 states with Alaska the exception. They cause damage to buildings and homes worth $50 billion each year.
Termites can cause extensive damage to your house before you even realize it. If you need to know what to look for, termites will eat your wood. The porch may appear sturdy until it begins to crumble or fall apart completely. It is actually not so bad. Termites can be slow to work due to the fact that nests can contain hundreds of thousands of hungry termites.
If you inspect your home annually, termites can be easily detected before they cause major damage to your foundation. Termites can hide in places you don’t often see, making it hard to identify them. They are sometimes wrong. Let’s take a look at five things a termite inspector will examine to determine if there is a problem. We are on the hunt for bugs. Grab your work boots.
5: Evidence for Swarmers
There are three types of termites found in America. Subterranean termites are the most common. We will discuss them in more detail. Termites can form new colonies from existing nests. This is how it works. After a few years, termite colonies start to produce sexually mature, winged alates. The alates will return to their nests in spring if the weather is hot and humid. All of the alateat from their nests are released at once by swarms, which then quickly disperse. There is a high chance that termites may be living in your home and eating your wood. It is important to inspect the window sills. Alates may try to escape, so you should inspect your window sills.
Do not panic. Do not panic. Only some ants build new colonies the same way. It’s possible you forgot to shut the window, and some winged termites accidentally landed. They look very similar to winged termites, but there are three main differences.
- The termite’s rear wings (they have two sets) are the same length as the front wings. The wings of flying ants’ rear wings are shorter than their front wings.
- Termites are wide-bellied, while ants have indentations below their second set.
- Termites are characterized by straight, beaded antennae. Ants have elbows and jointed bends.
If you find termites in your home, it is likely that you have a problem. Hire an exterminator.
Nature’s Termite Traps
You can temporarily leave spider webs around your property that formed in the spring. You can detect termites in your region by checking the webs for alates.
4: Mud Tubes
The presence of mud tubes can be used to detect termite inspection in newnan. These termites could be found near pipes, foundations, crawlspaces, attics, and other entry points to your house. Termites use mud tubes (also known as shelter tubes) to cross open spaces like concrete footers. These obstacles are too hard for termites to overcome, so they build highways around them or over them.
Mud tubes can be made from soil, wood, cellulose, or other particulate materials. Termites rapidly lose moisture and require protection to maintain the humidity. The tubes protect them from predators. The mud tubes have a thickness of about a pencil or a drinking straw, and they look almost like dry dirt. They can look straight or squiggly. If you discover a mudtube, and are wondering if it is caused by an old termite infestation or not, remove a small portion of the tube. If the breach does not close in a few days, it is possible that termites have been active on your property.
3: Mud in Construction Joints
Termites are a type of little builder. They fill in small spaces with dirt to make life easier. Although you may not notice any termites on your property, they could be present in small cracks in concrete, sheetrock or construction joints.
2: Wood in Your Landscape
While termites may not be the only indicator, it’s a good idea inspect your property for signs of termites.
Wood fencing near your home – termites will discover it and begin eating it. They will then follow the fence as a welcome sign to your home.
Wood mulch should be placed within 4 to 6 inches of the foundation of your home. It can also be eaten by termites. It can be used as a protective, moist cover by termites while they chew closer to your house. Termites don’t like wood smell. Termites cannot smell wood if it is near them.
If you have a lot of winter wood, firewood termites might enjoy a picnic in the yard. However, you should still have wood on your property. Keep termites at bay by keeping wood high above the ground and keeping it at least 20 feet from your home.
Deadwood – The natural world is made up of fallen tree branches. It is important to remove them. Tree branches are natural but termites won’t tolerate them. Remove any dead wood.
Wooden structures. Termite-resistant wood can be used for outdoor structures like decks, trees and playsets. Wooden structures on your property that are made from termite-resistant materials (such as pressure-treated wood, or other natural materials) could become susceptible to termite damage.
1: Wood Damage
Because termites eat wood from the inside, you won’t often see any damage to the surface. You might find dried mud tubes, or other bits of dirt in the vicinity. To detect a low or flat sound, a termite inspector may be able to tap a beam of wood. This could be a sign that the wood is hollower then it should be. This subtle distinction is challenging to see for beginners.
Termite-damaged wood will show traces of mud during its advanced stages. You will also notice deep parallel grooves in the wood after it has been excavated. Termites will prefer to eat soft, spring-growth wood and leave behind the harder wood. These striations are useful in determining whether termite damage is dry or wet.
